SAINT-PETERSBURG Council of Municipalities

Council of Municipalities of Saint-Petersburg was established in 2006 in accordance with the federal law “On the general organizing principles of local self-government in the Russian Federation” as non- government organization which unites municipalities of Saint-Petersburg.

The Organization’s goals are: to develop inter-municipal cooperation in order to uphold and defend the interests of local self-government of Saint-Petersburg on national and international levels; to promote interaction of local authorities with state authorities; to support citizens' initiations in the sphere of local self-government and to develop the civil society; to contribute the effective social and economic development of Saint-Petersburg.

Council of Municipalities of Saint-Petersburg includes 111 municipalities of Saint-Petersburg and is governed by a Presidium, which is formed by elected representatives of 18 districts of Saint-Petersburg. Council of Municipalities of Saint-Petersburg is a member of Russian National Congress of Municipalities. Also the organization takes part in international cooperation with the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities, holds and takes part in joint seminars.
