Ia?i is one of the largest cities and municipalities in Romania. Located in the Moldavia region, Ia?i has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Romanian social, cultural, academic and artistic life. As of 2011, Ia?i had a population of 263,410 (the fourth most populous Romanian city), the metropolitan area being home to about 350,000 residents, while the population of the peri-urban area exceeded 500,000 residents.
