Dialogue with children, 10-12 years old

Halltorp, Kalmar, Sweden
10/10/2018
Every year our leading local politicians visiting one school in Södermöre. One aim is that all pupils that are attending a school in Södermöre are going to experience one dialogue during their school time. Our hope is that they learn about how democracy works and also get curious about politics. The pupils are preparing questions in their classes before the dialogue. During the dialogue they ask their questions to the politicians. A couple of weeks after the dialogue the municipality and the politicians were visiting the school council to give feedback on what we have done since the last time we saw each other. The questions the pupils are asking are varying, from traffic to safety but also many wishes like a new sports hall or a new library or better communications with bus. The municipality cannot make all the wishes come true, and that’s where the learning part comes in. The dialogue was observed by the regional radio station and a local newspaper.
