Dialogue with young persons

Ljungbyholm, Kalmar, Sweden
11/10/2018
6 Young persons attended the dialogue where they were able to ask questions to 3 local politicians. The younger persons came from different places in Södermöre and their age’s varied from 12 years to 17 years old. Since it can be scary to directly ask the politician’s questions, they wrote down their questions on notes that were placed in a bowl. They random read the questions from the bowl. The questions they asked were about the politic situation on the national level, mental ill-health (that are a increasing problem by the youth), safety and what the local politicians have for youth politic goals. The discussions were many and we had to make a second dialogue to have time for all the questions. It was appreciated by the younger persons and the politicians enjoyed the engagement. One difficulty for the moderator (me) was to balance the discussions when some of the participants were only 12 years old when others were as old as 17 years. It came to my knowledge that the younger participants had a hard time to understand some of the answers and discussions.
