In the frame of the migration emergency and the several strategies that a city should put into action in order to facilitate the social integration of the refugees making the social life of communities as much sustainable and inclusive as possible, Edremit municipality in collaboration with YUVA Association is planning a full-day of training dedicated to the migration topics and the juridical mechanisms throughout municipalities can provide better support and multiple services to refugees. The training is dedicated to the employees of Edremit Municipality who work in the field of social services and culture. Several members of the Citizens' Council representing local civil society organisations will attend the training as well.

In the framework of the 2021 ELDW edition, Edremit Municipality in collaboration with YUVA Association organised a training day dedicated to the topic of migration emergency called "Migration Awareness". The above mentioned training was held online and joined by several employees of Edremit Municipality working in the department of Social and Cultural Affairs, Foreign Relations and also by several members of the Citizens' Council of Edremit Municipality. The training that was meant to be an activity of capacity building dedicated to local authority's workers dealing with social issues, inclusion policies and initiatives of support addressed to disadvantaged people and refugees, represents the first step of a wider project that Edremit Municipality together with the Citizens' Council is planning to implement in our region. The topic of migration, in fact, is a particularly sensitive issue considering that since 2015 the community of Edremit hosts numerous Syrian families for which our local authority implemented several initiatives of support and awareness campaigns. During the training the participants had the opportunity to deeper the legal definitions of "Refugees", "Immigrants" and " Asylum seekers" in order to understand the differences between these conditions in terms of legal aspects and common sense. The migration emergency recalls in an indissoluble way the principles of social inclusion, hospitality and mutual acceptance of the "other". The implementation of these principles together with the need to ensure on the part of local authorities economic stability, human rights and democratic participation, collaborate in reinforcing the resiliency of local communities. The training will be followed by a local meeting on the topic of Migration to be held in Edremit in the next weeks.
