Seminar about “Sensory analysis of olive oil”

During the European Democracy Week we had the pleasure to host Massimo De Rienzo, an Italian chemist specialised in sensory analysis of olive oil. Olive growing and olive oil production are the most important commercial sectors in the local economy of Edremit. De Rienzo participated in the European Local Democracy Week celebrations with his seminar in the frame of the several efforts of our local authority to acquaint local producers with European standards. With the participation of Mayor Kamil Saka, Deputy Mayor of Chania, Eleftheria Alifieraki, Edremit Director of District Agriculture Office Mr. Recep Özbudak, Director of Olive Institute Asst. Associate Professor Tuba Öncül Abacigil, students and a large number of citizens, Massimo De Rienzo explained in detail how to analyse olive oil with using the senses and how to distinguish it according to its taste.
During the European Democracy Week we had the pleasure to host Mr. Massimo De Rienzo, an Italian chemist specialized in sensory analysis of olive oil. Massimo De Rienzo is an employer of the Italian Government Custom Agency and he is in Turkey as “Resident Twinning Adviser” for an exchange program between Italian and Turkish customs.
Olive growing and olive oil production are the most important commercial sectors in the local economy of Edremit. For this reason Edremit Municipality is often involved in projects aimed to develop European olive oil quality and purity standards among the olive oil producers. The purpose of the Municipality is to encourage the implementation of EU productions criteria aimed to preserve the organoleptic properties of the olive oil and its nutrition facts together with its health benefits. Mr. De Rienzo participated to the European Local Authority Weeks celebrations with his seminary in the frame of the several efforts of our local authority to acquaint local producers to European standards. With the participation of Mayor Mr. Kamil Saka, Deputy Mayor of Chania, Mrs. Eleftheria Alifieraki, Edremit Director of District Agriculture Office Mr.Recep Özbudak, Director of Olive Institute Asst. Associate Professor Tuba Öncül Abacigil, students and a large number of citizens, Massimo De Rienzo explained in detail how to analyze olive oil with using the senses and how to distinguish it according to its taste. At the end of the event, Mayor Mr.Saka gave to the Italian expert De Rienzo, some gift including a sample of the olive oil of Edremit region.
