Aeneas Cultural Route Advisory and Cooperation Meeting

In the frame of the 2018 edition of European Local Democracy Week, we wanted to give space to one of the most important projects we are realising in cooperation with other Italian municipalities. The Cultural Route of Aeneas is an international project aimed to create a touristic and archaeological itinerary which consists of the most important archaeological heritages and Unesco Sites of Euro/Mediterranean countries linked to the legend of Aeneas. The intent of the project is to create a network of local authorities which are connected to the legend of Aeneas and to collaborate together in order to present the itinerary to the Council of Europe. The principles at the base of the projects are sustainable tourism, cultural tourism and local development. At the same time the legend of Aeneas with its universal values of cooperation, democracy, intercultural dialogue embody the really principles of Council of Europe. For this reason we thought it could be suitable to highlight the Cultural Route of Aeneas in the frame of ELDW celebrations, as this project represents a unique example of international cooperation between local administrations and implementation of local policies focused on cultural heritage, sustainable tourism, democracy principles of the Council of Europe and intercultural dialogue.
