« Ahmetbey Municipality » takes part in the European Local Democracy Week - a paneuropean event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - as « 12-Star City »

Dating back to the historical Thracians, Ahmetbey is one of the important settlement centers of the Marmara Region. There are tumulue and monumental tombs as an evedance of the existence of Thracian clan in B.C.700. The town was an grandee farm belonging to the bishopric center of Lüleburgaz during Thrac, Helen, Roman and Byzantine periods. In 1361, Ahmetbey passed from the Byzantines to the Ottoman Empire. When Evliya Çelebi was here in the 1650's, he reported in his itinerary that; Ahmetbey is a village with a vineyard garden and muslim identity is intense. It is known that the name of the land is taken from the farm owner Mister Ahmet. Ahmetbey, has been subjected to enemy attacks and seized many times, during the Ottoman Empire period. The town suffered twice in the Russian occupation in the years of 1829 and 1878 and in the Lüleburgaz Battles in 1912-1913 known as Balkanic’s defeat. The town was also faced with the Greek invasion in 1920-1922, but every time the people of the city resisted the enemy and supported the Turkish National Struggle. In the mean time, it suffered a considerable loss of lifes and property and it became independent from enemy occupation on November 8, 1922. Ahmetbey, on its current position; one of the rare settlements in the vicinity of the two major provinces of Thrace (Kırklareli-Tekirdağ), which are neighboring villages and 5 little towns around. Ahmetbey as a social, cultural and commercial center; It serves a total population of 15.000, including municipal activities, factories and businesses, industrial site, Family Health Center and Pharmacy, post office and ATM services, artisan variety and district bazaar and surrounding villages and towns. Economy; based on trade, agriculture and animal husbandry. The factories around the highway (E5) provided job opportunities for the people of the city. In addition, worked with an efforts to create new business opportunities by encouraging the establishment of factories within the borders of the towns.
