Samos

« Samos » takes part in the European Local Democracy Week - a paneuropean event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - as « Partner city »

Samos lies in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea near the coast of Asia Minor. It is located 175 nautical miles away from Piraeus and is the closest to Turkey Greek island, from which it is separated by the Mykali strait or Dar Bogaz in Turkish, with a minimum width of approximately 1.650m. At its northwest lies Chios, Ikaria at its west, Fournoi at its southwest and Dodecanese at its south, of which the nearest are Agathonisi, Arki and Patmos. The capital of Samos since the principality era is located 18 km from the airport and is amphitheatrically built in a beautiful bay.
