Market Wastes Return to Tables with Agriculture

Beykoz/Istanbul
As being Beykoz Municipality, to maintain clean and sustainable environment, we aim to induce citizens to protect and recycle. For a clean and sustainable environment in Beykoz, biodegradable wastes collected from the markets; and then they transformed into the farms, fields and nature as soil-improving compost and growers. Finally, these vegetables or fruits brought to the tables in a healthy way. To achieve the “Zero Waste” goals in Beykoz, we develop a project that called as “Juniper Table”. According to the project, biodegradable wastes collected from the markets or bazaars. Then they processed in large composting machines. Processed compost used in fruit and vegetable cultivation in Yücel Çelikbilek Orchard. Addition to this process, the compost given to the worms as food and then the worm manure used in the urban agricultural points in Beykoz. The Juniper Table Project plays an important role for eliminating the storage of the organic wastes, assuring substantial contribution to the economy and more importantly, many vegetables and fruits grown within the municipality’s orchard served out to the citizens of Beykoz whose economical situations are bad. With this project and “zero waste” applications , Beykoz Municipality aims to increase awareness of citizens, protect the environment and create an initiative among citizens to take action for environmental protection.
