5. Round table: Impact of local self-organization bodies on the trust building in local authorities

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the creation of the first committee of resident self-organization in Fastiv. This is a landmark event not only for our town but also the seven operating committees. After all, the resident initiative has gained support and development across the country, affirming the importance of creating conditions for citizen participation in local issues, the implementation of socio-economic and cultural development of the appropriate territory, other local programs and enjoyment of social, cultural, household and other needs of residents by providing with appropriate services. This was mentioned at a roundtable held at the Local history museum. It was attended by representatives of committees, town leaders, as well as those who really outstripped time and overcame numerous obstacles on the way to the plan realization. A worthy assessment of the pioneers and the current citizen achievements in the development of representative body, enhancement of the influence of the self-organization bodies on the formation of the trust in local authorities were given by the distinguished guests as Svitlana Gryshchenk?, project manager of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe and Harry Martin, executive director of the Kyiv Regional Branch of the AUC. They expressed their belief that Fastiv was deservedly honoured three times with the “12 stars” award presented by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe to cities that demonstrate the significant achievements of local authorities in engaging the community in the development of local democracy.
