« City of Huddinge » takes part in the European Local Democracy Week - a paneuropean event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - as « 12-Star City »
Information and freedom of expression are preconditions for an open, democratic society. However, in many parts of the world freedom is under pressure. How do we protect freedom of expression in an increasingly globalised society? What is the role of freedom of expression in an increasingly digitised world? How do we combat the restriction of freedoms also taking place in democratic states?
The peace conference builds on the 250th anniversary of the Swedish Press Act (#Frittord250) and highlights, from a global perspective, the role of freedom of speech in peace and freedom. Participants in the peace conference included, among others, Alice Bah Kuhnke, the Minister of Culture and Democracy, Denis Mukwege, founder and director of Panzi Hospital and recipient of the UN Human Rights Prize, and Anders Kompass, director of field operations at the UN Human Rights Office.
Organisers: Yennenga progression, Work Museum, Södertörn University, the European Parliament Information Office in Sweden and Municipality of Huddinge.
