« LEIPZIG - Zentrum für demokratische Bildung » takes part in the European Local Democracy Week - a paneuropean event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - as « Partner association »
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the peaceful revolution in 1989, the first International Democracy Conference was held in 2009 in Leipzig. It gave an overview of what had been achieved so far and allowed an outlook towards the future development of democracy in Middle and Eastern Europe. Only two years later, the second International Democracy Conference followed with a focus on youth and politics. The topic "democracy in school" was brought forward by the participating teenagers. The initiative "democracy goes to school" will focus on the challenges flowing from the past and asks more precisely: How democratic is my school and what can I (as a teacher) contribute to fostering democratic values?
