Municipality of Krasnodar (before 1920 - Yekaterinodar) is the administrative, industrial, business and cultural centre of the Krasnodar Territory. Founded by the Cossacks in 1793, the administrative centre of the Krasnodar Territory - the city of Krasnodar - is the largest industrial, transport, commercial, scientific and cultural centre of the South of Russia. The terrain of the territory is steppe, the climate is moderate continental. The city has a favorable economic and geographical location in the Southern Federal District, located on the most important transport highways connecting the centre of Russia with ports of the Black and Azov Seas, as well as with resorts on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. In the south-eastern part of Krasnodar the Kuban Reservoir is located, which was built in 1973 to ensure the implementation of industrial and reclamation activities. Krasnodar is a major industrial centre in the South of Russia, and the leading municipality in the Southern Federal District. In 2019, large and medium-sized industrial enterprises in Krasnodar shipped goods of their own production with a total value of approximately 3.7 billion dollars (increase of 17.6% compared with 2018). The city's industrial output accounts for 23% of the total volume of goods shipped by enterprises of the Krasnodar Territory. The number of operating economic entities in the industry is 1.5 thousand units, including 116 large and medium-sized enterprises. The number of workers in the industrial sector is 78,000 people (about 15% of the total number of employees in the city economy). In the structure of Krasnodar's industrial sector, 15% are enterprises involved in research and development, while the rest are practices that produce products. The largest share in the industrial production of Krasnodar is occupied by the enterprises of processing industries - 58%, 38% - enterprises engaged in supplying electricity, gas and steam. Krasnodar is 100 km away from the Black and Azov Seas and 50 km from the foothills of the Caucasian mountains with mineral springs, which have the same medicinal characteristics as the springs in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. In Krasnodar, the number of sunny days is 260 - 280 days a year. All this makes our city attractive and comfortable for life, work and rest. The cultural environment of Krasnodar is presented by the following system of municipal institutions: 14 culture-and-leisure establishments, 18 organizations that provide supplementary education (16 children’s schools, 2 children’s art schools), 38 municipal libraries including 10 libraries for children. There are also 9 state educational organizations in the city – special-needs (correctional) educational organizations for students with developmental disorders. More than 60 medical institutions are working in the city now (private and state).
