Accesible Kadıköy

Our primary objective is to significantly improve accessibility and inclusivity in Kadıköy, accomplished through the innovative integration of a dedicated app module into the existing Digital Kadıköy application. This forward-thinking approach utilizes citizen science methodologies and community involvement to comprehensively address the myriad of challenges faced by individuals with limited mobility. The app module serves as a pivotal tool, empowering those with physical limitations to report instances of inaccessible pavements and roads, thereby actively contributing to the enhancement of the overall physical environment's accessibility. This endeavor operates in close collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including the Kadıköy Municipality, individuals with disabilities and their families, educational institutions, and non-governmental organizations dedicated to advocating for disability rights. Through this collective effort, we establish a dynamic platform that not only encourages community participation but also empowers citizens as scientists. The mobile application facilitates the submission of detailed spatial notifications, encompassing photos and comments, providing a comprehensive database of inaccessible areas. This rich dataset is then employed to generate informative heatmaps, visually illustrating the prevalent challenges faced by individuals with restricted mobility and pinpointing priority areas for targeted interventions. Our holistic approach aims to foster social inclusion and equality, enabling individuals with limited mobility to actively engage in education, employment, and recreational activities. By striving to create a more inclusive society, we aspire to cultivate a community where everyone has equal opportunities, contributing to a harmonious and accessible urban landscape.
