Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE)

The Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE) is composed of all regional assemblies with legislative power in the European Union. A total of 74 members from 8 countries of the European Union: Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, UK.

The CALRE was founded by an act signed on 7 October 1997 in Oviedo (Spain) aiming at providing a more influential role of regional parliaments in the European legislative process, through:

  • the collaboration between its members, the EU institutions and international networks to share experiences and build synergies for the defense of common interests.
  • the monitoring of the Subsidiarity Principle as guarantee for an efficient implementation of EU legislative initiatives in its territory.
  • the promotion of Regional Parliamentarianism, due to representatives' proximity to citizens, in order to reach higher rates of participation on European affairs and bring Europe closer to its citizens.
