City of Kragujevac

Kragujevac is located in the central part of the Republic of Serbia, 140 kilometers south from capitol Belgrade. Kragujevac, as the largest city in the region of Sumadija with its approximately 293.398 inhabitants, is the region's administrative, industrial, cultural, educational and health hub, which alone has 179.417 citizens by records made in census in year 2011. The region covers the area of 835 square kilometers and consists of 57 settlements and 78 local communities. There are around 1.500 large, middle and small companies doing business here, including many large international companies such as Fiat Chrisler Automobiles, Johnson Controls, SIGIT, Meggle, TPV, Scolz, Viator Vector, Rapp Marine, Hodlmayer, etc. Ten important cultural institutions of regional, and some of national significance, cherishing theatrical, fine arts, folklore, and industrial heritage, some of them continuing over one century old tradition, are situated in Kragujevac. Numerous cultural festivals and events are taking place annually and biennially, presenting stage performances for adults, high school students and children alike, followed by classic, choir and popular music festivals, as well as antiwar cartoons salon. The University of Kragujevac is composed of 11 faculties. This is the city of rich history and cultural heritage. In the following 2018 it is going to celebrate 200 anniversary since it was proclaimed the first capitol of the modern Serbian state. Consequently, it was the place where the first modern constitution was adopted and the most important judicial, cultural, educational, health care and industrial institutions were founded. It was already in the 19th century that exchange of knowledge, ideas, experiences and craftsmanship with foreigners in our city proved the importance of international cooperation in all mentioned spheres of society, thus, continuing down this path there is great interest to enhance this kind of activities.
