« ILION » takes part in the European Local Democracy Week - a paneuropean event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - as « Partner city »
Situated at the west part of Attica Prefecture, 8 klm far from Athens, Ilion is among the largest municipalities of Greece both in terms of size and population. According to the 2011 census our population stands at 85.000 residents, with a 10% share of European citizens and third-country nationals.
The vast majority of the active population, exceeding 75% according to official data, is employed in the tertiary and service sector. Municipal authorities have set up a dense network of social structures to alleviate the strains of the economic crisis and to boost social cohesion and integration.

Among others, the Centre of life-long learning, the "Social Schools", aimed at supporting students from low income families to catch-up with their classmates and the "Help at Home" project, aiming to help lonely, elderly and people with reduced mobility to address issues of everyday life (e.g. shopping, paying bills etc.).
