FES - Maroc

Fez is currently the third largest city in Morocco in terms of residents. Its founding dates traditionally from the beginning of the ninth century, under the reign of Moulay Idriss II, but some historians place at the end of the eighth century, under the reign of Moulay Idriss I, his father.  The metropilitan city of Fez is composed of the City of Fez (divided into six districts) and the municipality of Fez Jdid Méchouar (seat of a royal palace), whose respective populations were 920,737 and 26,078 people - representing 946,815 in total - at the last census in 2004. The Old Town of Fez is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
