Mancomunidad del Alto Turia

Mancomunidad del Alto Turia (Alto Turia Municipalities Consortium) is a supramunicipal entity located in the province of Valencia that brings together five small rural municipalities: Aras de los Olmos, Benagéber, Chelva, Titaguas, and Tuéjar, with the aim of managing shared services and promoting the economic, social and tourism development of the area. Its territory is shaped by the upper course of the Turia River, with mountainous landscapes, extensive pine forests and protected natural areas that give it great environmental value. The traditional economy has been based on agriculture, livestock farming and forestry, although in recent years rural and nature tourism has gained increasing importance as a driving force for revitalization and the fight against depopulation. The region was declared a **UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2019** and is also recognized as a **Starlight Reserve**, highlighting its exceptional environmental quality and outstanding conditions for astronomical observation.
