« MELITOPOL » takes part in the European Local Democracy Week - a paneuropean event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - as « Partner city »

MELITOPOL

Melitopol city belongs to the group of southern cities in Zaporozhye region. The city was founded in 1784. Distance to the regional center is 120 km, to the Azov Sea - 50 km. According to the geographical zoning the city is located within the dry steppe subzone of the Black Sea-Azov region and belongs to the Prisivashsko-Priazovskoy lowland of Lower Molochansk geographic region. About 70% of the city is located in the watershed with an average height 34-40 m, and the rest is on a steep slope on the right bank of the Milk River valley and floodplain.

Melitopol became a member of the Council of Europe international project "Intercultural Cities" (2008) and is the only city in Ukraine representing the country in the ICC. European countries are interested in the experience of Melitopol, where more than 100 nationalities have been living together peacefully for more than a century. Melitopol proudly calls itself the "intercultural capital of Ukraine". Associations of national-cultural societies are actively working in the city.
