LDA Edremit_ Local Community Taking Action_Kick off meeting in Edremit

Since 2020 Edremit Municipality collaborate with ALDA in establishing the first Local Democracy Agency in Türkiye. During the month of October 2021 the Memorandum of Understanding of the LDA Edremit was undersigned by several local partners, including the municipality of Edremit and ALDA and other local CSOs. Since that day the process to establish and reinforce the LDA Edremit is ongoing. In this frame, on 9th-11th of November 2022, Apolline Bonfils and Giulia Sostero (ALDA Coordinator of Mediterranean Area) came to Edremit in order to join a coordination meeting with Edremit municipality and other members of LDA Edremit. The coordinating meeting is functional in order to prepare the assessment of the needs of the local community which is finalised to a capacity building training in Local Democracy and participation to be held in Edremit. In the frame of the meeting the Strategic Plan of LDA Edremit for 2023 were drafted and the general priority areas of the agency were updated with a significant stress on the topic of environment and climate change and a discussion about the need of a in depth analysis of the needs of local communities, challenges and objectives which are crucial for the LDA Edremit operational plan. In addition, the visit represented also the occasion for the delegation from ALDA to take a look of the LDA Edremit Office, located in the Youth Centre of Edremit.
