« Svrljig municipality » takes part in the European Local Democracy Week - a paneuropean event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - as « Partner city »
Svrljig is a municipality in southeastern Serbia, within the Nišava District. According to the last census, Svrljig has a little more than 10,000 inhabitants. This region is known for its beautiful nature, traditional food, as well as for the Svrlji mountains, which are popular for hikers and nature lovers. Svrljig is located on an important road connecting eastern and southern Serbia, which gives it a significant geographical and strategic position. The municipality is also known for the production of cheese, especially Kachkavalja cheese, which is one of the trademarks of this region.
