Municipality of Svrljig

The area of the municipality of Svrljig covers the central part of the Carpathian-Balkan mountain range in eastern Serbia. The area that administratively belongs to it approximately coincides with the upper and part of the middle basin of Svrljiški Timok. It covers the Svrljig valley with the surrounding mountain elevations: the mountain range of the Svrljig mountains (Zeleni vrh 1334m) in the south, the branch of Paješki kamen (1074m) in the east, Tresibaba (786m), in the north and the mountain massif Kurila (Kalafat 839m) and its branches in the west. It is bounded on the northwest by the Golak area, on the north by the Knjaževac valley, on the east by the Zaglavak area, on the southeast by the Belopalanka valley, on the south by the Belopalanka valley, and then on the Si?eva?ka gorge area, Niš and Aleksinac valley, on the south and southwest. The area of the municipality is 497 km², and it is inhabited by one city central settlement with 38 villages.
