Semaine européenne de la démocatie locale
Germany Germany Chemnitz

« Chemnitz » takes part in the European Local Democracy Week - a paneuropean event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - as « Partner city »

Chemnitz as a “City of Modernity” is a town with many faces. The third largest city in Saxony with approximately 247 000 inhabitants its architecture is modern and belongs to the classical modernism style. Art and culture are integral parts of the city’s history as exemplified by the expressionist artist Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, who was born in Chemnitz, or the Bauhaus school’s icon Marianne Brandt. The Gunzenhauser Museum is today home to around 2500 pieces of modern art. Pursuing one’s own way, having a new way of thinking and doing unusual things is what makes the city and its people successful.
