The city of Monchegorsk is situated on the bank of Lake Imandra – the biggest lake in the Murmansk region, which was turned into a water reservoir in 1951. Imandra`s surface area is about 880 square kilometres and the deepest point is 67 meters.
Monchegorsk is situated in the centre of Kola Peninsula (Murmansk region, North-West Federal Region, Russia). Transport infrastructure consists of a 30-kilometer railway track, which connects the city with the “St. Petersburg – Murmansk” motorway and the “St. Petersburg – Murmansk” road. The distance to Murmansk city regional centre is 150 km.
