Establishment of LDA-Edremit; advisory online meeting with ALDA

Edremit Municipality as “Partner of the European Local Democracy Week” is engaged in applying at local level the principles of participatory citizenship and inclusion through the creation of new and innovative mechanisms of participation and shared platform of citizens' consultation. In this framework Edremit Municipality is collaborating with ALDA in order to host the first Local Democracy Agency in Turkey. The creation of a Local Democracy Agency with the active participation of several local civil organisations of our city will provide a further tool to our community in order to be an active part of the decision-making mechanisms of our city. Inspired by the significant principles and values embodied by the European Local Democracy Week, Edremit Municipality which is a Partner City since 2017, started on 2021 a new path of awareness in the frame of local democracy and participatory citizenship. Edremit Municipality as member of ALDA (European Association for Local Democracy) is working with ALDA team in order to establish in Edremit the first Local Democracy Agency (LDA) in Turkey. The city of Edremit has been selected as host city for the first Local Democracy Agency in Turkey for its engagement in developing the European Idea and the European dimension of our activities supporting the initiative of our citizens according to the principles of participatory democracy and inclusion. The works for the establishment of LDA -Edremit are rapidly proceeding with the guidance of ALDA and the advisory support of several local civil organisations based in Edremit and the Citizens' Council of our municipality. On 1st September 2021 Edremit Municipality and ALDA is planning an online advisory meeting in order to give the start to the establishment of Edremit LDA.
