Open Day of Antandros Ancient City

Edremit Municipality organised an “Open Day” at the archaeological site of Antandros in order to encourage citizens to discover the ancient settlement of Antandros which is one of the most important touristic attractions of the region. The municipality provided a bus service from Edremit to Antandros for those who wanted to visit ancient city, while Gülçin Cömert, President of the Antandros Association, led the participants through the excursion, giving information about the 2.000m² Roman Villa, walls and necropolis excavated during the last 16 years of excavation.
A local authority who aims to engage and foster the participation of its citizens shall also ensure to involve them actively in developing and protecting the local richness and the territorial cultural heritage. In this frame Edremit Municipality organized an “Open Day” at the archaeological site of Antandros in order to encourage the citizens to discover the ancient settlement of Antandros which is one of the most important touristic attractions of the region. The Municipality provided a bus service from Edremit to Antandros for those who wanted to visit ancient city, while Gülçin Cömert, President of the Antandros Association, lead the participants during the excursion, giving information about the 2,000-square-meter Roman Villa, walls and necropolis excavated during the last 16 years of excavation. The Antandros Open Day has been an occasion to illustrate to the citizens the Aeneas Route project. An international project aimed to turn the journey of Aeneas narrated by Virgil in an archaeological cultural route with the support of the Council of Europe.
