School visits for Local Democracy Week 2018

23 students from Moorend Academy and Batley Girls High School took part in an event to explore local democracy.Cllr Kaushik led a four hour session which involved:
• Learning about the role of a local councillor and how to become one.
• Learning about our local democracy.
• Identifying things young people value in their communities and what change they would like to see.
• Using a polling booth, ballot paper and ballot box to vote for a social action project to take back to school.
• Taking part in the 'Growing a stronger youth council' engagement activities.
