Construction of a new reservoir for clean water

Esch-sur-Alzette
From 17/11/2021 to 17/11/2021
A new clean water reservoir will be built in the extension of the rue du Stade at the "Gaalgebierg" in Esch-sur-Alzette. This new reservoir, which will eventually replace the current water reservoir opposite the E. Mayrisch stadium, will make it possible to secure the distribution of drinking water in our town for current and future needs. The current reservoir, which has a capacity of 3,200 m3, dates from the end of the 19th / beginning of the 20th century. The new reservoir will have a capacity of 5,500 m3 (2 stainless steel tanks of 2,750 m3 each (21.00m x 8.00m)). Together with the "Dënnebesch" reservoir, an additional structure planned by the City of Esch, the drinking water supply for 65,100 inhabitants will be guaranteed in the long term. The new reservoir will be located below the car park near the "Remembrance Wood" at a height of 361.20 müNN. This location has been defined according to the water pressure requirements in the locality and to ensure an equivalent level with the future "Dënnebesch" reservoir with which it will have to "communicate". The structure will be partially buried to limit the visual impact of the 53.40m long and 26.70m wide building with a height of 14.20m. To ensure optimum landscape integrity, wooden cladding will be used around the building. The reservoir will be supplied by the sources of the City of Esch and by the Syndicat SES. The water will be distributed to households via two pipes, one through the city park to the existing reservoir and a second pipe that will go directly to the boulevard J.-F. Kennedy.
