KADIKOY DISASTER VOLUNTEER PROJECT

Kadıköy Disaster Volunteer Training,which started with the call of Kadıköy Mayor Şerdil Dara Odabaşı after the 2020 İzmir earthquake,received more than a thousand applications by the people of Kadıköy after the big earthquake on 6 February. Trainers in the Kadıköy Municipality Urban Search and Rescue Team (BAK-Kadıköy) provide training to people who want to become disaster volunteers within the scope of the Project. The major earthquakes once again showed how important trainings such as disaster awareness,search and rescue,first aid are and how they save lives. The trainings in the Disaster Education and Awareness Park,which was implemented by Kadıköy Municipality to inform and raise awareness about natural disasters,gained even more importance. On February 18,2023,in the tranings that started again,lasting between 6-8 weeks and taking place on weekends,theoretical and practical trainings are given on individual disaster awareness,fire intervention methods,structural awareness against earthquakes,live search dogs,disasters due to climate change,light search and rescue. Persons who attend and complete all trainings become BAK Kadıköy members or support volunteers.The purpose of these trainings given on the basis of neighborhoods is to enable disaster volunteers to work in their own neighborhoods and organize in case of a possible disaster. Because the earthquake on February 6 showed us that after the disaster,the volunteers will make the organization and intervention in the neighborhoods in the first place. In the trainings,disaster volunteers who have completed the training are asked to collect the information of pharmacy,bakery,plumber,doctor,nurse etc. İn their neighborhoods in order to make risk analysis in the neighborhoods.At the same time,information of places that may pose a risk in case of a disaster is requested.Such as a gas station.All of this information is processed on the map of the neighborhoods and planning is made about the neighborhoods.At the same time,trainers will be trained by BAK Kadıköy and citizens who receive this training will be able to provide training in the neighborhoods.
