The festival of Upcycling

One of the workshops held in our Ecological Life Center is the “Upcycling Festival”. Recycling, which we are all accustomed to, means reintroducing a used material into the production processes by turning it into a raw material again. This is a valuable attitude, but now there is more: Upcycling. When we look at the hot weather we are experiencing this summer,it shows us how carefully we need to use energy. We should pay attention to the energy we will spend in recycling. Kadikoy Municipality and Yeryüzü Association organize “Upcycling Festival”every year, considering these human conditions. In this event, which lasts 4-5 hours, participants transform the material that they no longer need, into a form that they can reuse. The event started with a vegan food workshop and continued with a conversation on the “climate crisis”, a swap festival, an origami workshop with children and a sewing workshop. During the festival, old pants were turned into bags, bottles into vases, old magazines into wallets, old skirts into hats. During the last part of the festival, all kinds of broken tools were repaired. This repair has been taught to the owner of the material, enabling the person to re-upcycle itself.
