Discussions of young students with the Mayor and the Municipal Councillors of the Municipality of Moschato – Tavros

The initiative of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Moschato-Tavros and under the auspices of the Mayor, Mr. Andreas Efthimiou, a meeting took place with the Student (15 member) Councils of the Gymnasiums and Lyceums of Moschato and Tavros (secondary education establishments) to discuss on the importance of the participatory procedures within a process of local and endogenous sustainable development, as well as the role of the new generation in co-formulating the development model in their municipality as well as the positive impact out of a meaningful increase of their involvement of their participation rate for more co-creation and co-decision in their city. This discussion opened this agenda and was enriched by the distinguished lawyers from the wider scientific community of the Municipality of Moschato-Tavros, the President of the Municipal Council Mr. Athanasios Melistas lawyer, the Head of the Legal Service Ilias Bizanis and Ms. Jeni Papatheodorou Legal Expert - Advisor. Their expertise and interventions added value to this integrating, inclusive process. The young students had the opportunity to discuss with the local elected Councillors of their municipality and enlightened more specific aspects of a broader process of sustainable and resilient development a quest at the local level, as well as about any obstacles-delays –problems- overlapping at the various decision making levels concerned; moreover, they were also able to come across more concretely of the value of participation, of their expression of interest about the development question at the local level as well as the essential role of co-shaping a decision concerning noble causes such as the quality of life and long-term development aspirations with social and environmental prioritization. The cost of the event was 1500 euros (internal organization – under the auspices of the Municipality of Moschato Tavros).
