Municipality of Agii Anargiri-Kamatero
From 08/11/2022 to 09/11/2022
The municipality of Agii Anargiri-Kamatero (AAK) organized an international workshop November 8th and 9th, 2022, in the context of the European project “Active EUcitizens: Think Global, Act Local”, funded by "Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme". In this two-day event, 33 participants from 5 European countries took part as well as 12 citizens. During this event, the AAK Project Team delivered a presentation of two “good practices” implemented by the Municipality of AAK: a) “Art goes to school” and b) “Wheelchair basketball game-experiential workshop”. a) “Art goes to school”: The participants visited a local Primary School and attended in real time the initiative of involving the students in the City’s actions. Music and dance teachers who work in the Municipal Music School visit the students of the Primary School and through a game they manage to inform and raise awareness to the school community (students, parents, teachers) about the actions of the Municipality regarding culture, such as events and lessons delivered at the Municipal Cultural Center, for example, lessons of musical instruments, dance, painting, theater and art.The aim of this good practice is that students of the city appreciate the value of music in human communication and expression and also, engage in the activities of the Municipality. b) "Wheelchair basketball game-experiential workshop”: The participants visited the Municipal Gym and attended the training of the Basketball Team “ATLAS” which is a team of people with disabilities. It is worth mentioning that the Municipality offers this Municipal Gym to "ATLAS" for their trainings and races. The aim of this good practice is to promote social awareness and inclusion of people with special needs in our society. Furthermore, many primary schools attend these trainings/ races with the aim of raising children's awareness. Also, the importance of promoting accessibility in European community as well as active citizenship, was highlighted.
