Local Government Association

« Local Government Association » takes part in the European Local Democracy Week - a paneuropean event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - as « Partner association »

Our Association contributes to the success of the ELDW because

it gets people closer to their democratic institutions

it boosts the values of local democracy throughout Europe

our association contributes to the efforts of the Council of Europe and the Congress to enhance the European values of democracy and human rights.

The LGA is the national voice of local government and our mission is to support, promote and improve councils.

We work with councils to achieve our shared vision for local government by focusing our efforts where we can have real impact, being bold and ambitious, and supporting councils to make a difference, deliver and be trusted.

We are a membership organisation. In total, 423 local authorities are members of the LGA for 2012-13. These include English local councils, Welsh councils via the Welsh LGA and fire, National Park, passenger transport and police authorities, plus one town council.
