IDA Marathon_ Ultra Run Trail Race over the Mount of Zeus and Aeneas; Running for the Environment

The IDA Ultra Marathon 2022 can be considered the conclusive activity of the year, inspired to the principles of sustainability and protection of the environment. Supported by Edremit Municipality, IDA Ultra Marathon is a sportive event with a great impact in terms of natural areas protection awareness and respect of the environment and natural landscapes. The IDA Ultra Marathon took place between the 3rd-4th of December and was joined by runners from more than 24 different nationalities. The contest is included in the international rankings with a length of 140 km. The IDA Ultra Marathon can be considered a side event related to the annual theme of the European Local Democracy Week as the event stresses the importance of the naturalistic richness of the territory and the need to discover and safeguard the bio diversity of the environment. The running trail crosses the Natural Park of Ida Mountain giving to the runners the opportunity to enjoy stunning naturalistic landscape immutate since centuries. The path crosses also several villages less known and not included in the general touristic tours. During the opening speech of the event released by the Mayor and the Vice Mayor of Edremit Municipality the reference to the cultural heritage of Aeneas Route and the natural heritage embodied by the National Park has been well underlined. They both called the local citizens in contributing to preserve the local natural beauty and the environment.
