Protecting the Environment! The Youth is Mobilizing!

We organized on the 6th of October the Municipality of Ramnicu Valcea organized a major event with the support of AIDE foundation, at the Municipality’s Youth Hub. Volunteers from the Youth associations gathered together to debate with the local administration’s representatives (Vice Mayor Andrei GHEORGHIU and Simona ILIESCU, the ELDW local coordinator) the major issues the city is facing to protect the environment. The local administration’s representatives presented the municipality’s major climate change mitigation projects, as well as the measures taken, awareness campaigns developed in town. The debate focused on how the local administration can fulfill its obligations as a member of the Covenant of Mayors, such as to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, and how the young generation can contribute to it. We talked about how pollution and climate change affect our lives, about solutions to protect the environment, so that Ramnic becomes an oasis of clean air for its inhabitants. The local administration’s representatives discussed with the young volunteers the Municipality’s projects for a green city: - Procurement of separate waste collection systems (ecological islands) through the National Recovery and resilience Plan – NRRP; - Creating a park forest; - Purchase of electric buses, charging stations, construction of bike lanes; -• Rehabilitation of schools, equipping them with educational equipment, creation of smart laboratories (SMART labs); - Thermal rehabilitation of public and private buildings (energy efficiency projects) - Purchase of the e-conEnergy application that measures energy consumption in Râmnic.
