Muratpasa, Antalya
From 05/12/2022 to 05/12/2022
Antalya Muratpasa Mayor Ümit Uysal was the guest of the BBC's podcast and radio program titled 'People Fixing the World' with his award-winning recycling project Environmentally Friendly Neighbour Card. Environmentally Friendly Neighbour Card started as a pilot project in two neighborhoods of Muratpasa in April 2016 as Turkey's first and only award-winning recycling project. The project, which also forms the basis of the 'Zero Waste' project carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, spread to the district after the success achieved in the pilot study. With the project, which started with the motto of 'Don't throw, save, let's win', a financial resource that has never been before has been created for home economies. In the period from April 2016 to October 2022, the residents of Muratpa?a earned 7 million 927 thousand liras from the qualified wastes consisting of glass, paper, plastic and metal that they did not throw away. In the same period, 20 million 317 thousand kilograms of waste were collected from house to house. Thus, 863 thousand square meters of forest area was protected, 72 million liters of water was saved and carbon emissions were reduced by 654 thousand kilograms. The exemplary project of Muratpasa Municipality also attracted the attention of the British media organization BBC. Mayor Uysal was the guest of the podcast and radio program titled "People Fixing the World" prepared by Craig Langran. In the program published at www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0dbvpkd, Mayor Uysal explained that the Environmentally Friendly Neighbour Card is a project that is constantly evolving and returning. Uysal noted that over time, vegetable waste oil, electrical and electronic wastes and textile wastes were added to the project, which started with packaging waste.
