Local Democracy Agency Edremit in Turkey: Signature Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding

The city of Edremit is developing its commitment in the frame of local democracy and participatory citizenship with a new and particularly significant activity which represent the starting point for a new season of consultation, dialog and collaboration between the municipality of Edremit and the local community as a whole. As member of ALDA, Edremit Municipality has been selected on 2021 as the hosting city for the first Local Democracy Agency in Turkey. After a long journey for its establishment, the Signature Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding of LDA Edremit in Turkey, will be held on 15th October 2021, in concomitance with the ELDW Flagship Day, in order to multiply the significance and the symbolic value of this important new instrument of consultation, cooperation and dialogue between civil society and local authorities, in a frame of authentic participatory citizenship and democracy.
15th October represents the most significant day of ELDW and Edremit Municipality wanted to honour this special recurrence celebrating the Award Ceremony of the Plaque of Honour in order to underline the meaning that the European Local Democracy Week represents for our city. The Plaque of Honour is a recognition awarded by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe according to several criteria that a community fulfil during the year. Criteria comprehend the celebration of the European Local Democracy Week, European Mobility Week, Europe Day but also activities in the field of international solidarity, intercultural exchange with twinned cities and support to youth mobility and entrepreneurship. The ceremony was attended by Yunus EMRE, member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and member of Turkish Parliament. ALDA Vice President, Secretary General, Coordinator of Mediterranean Area, Mayor of Edremit Municipality, members of the City Council, members of Citizens Council, Directors of Edremit Municipality joined the ceremony.
