Municipality of Centar- Skopje

« Municipality of Centar- Skopje » takes part in the European Local Democracy Week - a paneuropean event coordinated by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe - as « Partner city »

The municipality of Centar is one of the ten municipalities in the city with a central location, so the residents themselves call it the heart of Skopje, because it is located in the most beautiful part of the city. According to the absolute altitude of 320 meters, it is counted among the lowest municipalities in the country. It has a northeast-southwest direction. The total number of inhabitants is 43.893, which makes it the seventh place in Skopje. The municipality covers an area of about 8 km². The municipality of Centar, from its establishment until today, is rightly the center of events in Skopje and North Macedonia, despite the many changes from the former municipality of Idadija. It is establishment in 1976, with todays boundaries from the new territorial division in 200. It is growing into a modern European and even world center with complete urbanization. Due to its location and importance, the municipality is also the seat of the largest number of institutions and buildings that have an architectural, historical, administrative, cultural, political, educational and commercial character, as well as the most densely populated residential area in our country. Here are located: the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Government of the Republic of North macedonia, the National and University Library "St. Kliment Ohridski", part of the University "St. Cyril and Methodius", the City Park, the Macedonian National Theatre, the Macedonian Opera and Ballet, the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Statehood and Independence, Porta Macedonia, the Kale Fortress of Skopje, the "Sveti Spas" Church, the Stone Bridge, the Ristic Palace, the old railway station and a large number of hotels, which offer pleasant moments of rest and socializing for all tourists, who visit the Municipality of Centar in large numbers.
